Aunt Malwina and Edward

Aunt Malwina

Mom’s grandfather, Emil Janinka, received this picture of his sister Malwina (pronounced Mal-VEE-na) in 1958. He had not seen his sister since he left for America when he was a young man.

Standing next to Malwina is her grandson, Edward. Malwina died not long after this photo was taken. Edward may still be alive in Eastern Europe.

Her name is Polish and the writing on back of the photo is in Polish, but Mom remembers hearing that Malwina may have lived in Minsk, Belarus.

I wonder about her life, with her babushka and calloused hands. Hard work from morning till night.

She is my great grand aunt. Edward is my second cousin, one time removed.
