Thomas Craven, Grandmom’s brother and my great-uncle, was a conductor for the Pullman Train Company. Here are three postcards he sent to Dad in the 1940’s from his travels.

Uncle Tom was known to his family as Big Tom, to distinguish him from his son, Tom. I always called him Uncle Tom, though.

Maggie Courtney was Uncle Tom’s first cousin. Her mother, Margaret Doyle, was the older sister of Annie Doyle, Uncle Tom’s mother and my great-grandmother.

Margaret Doyle was born in Ireland in 1843. In 1875, she married Patrick Courtney in Lykens, Pennsylvania. They had four children: Frank, Dan, Maggie, and Lydia (Addie). The Courtneys moved to Missoula, Montana around 1900.
