My great-grandmother Anna McDonald died on March 10, 1907. According to her death certificate, the chief cause of death was a carbuncle on her back. She suffered from diabetes. Anna was only 44-years-old and had worked as a housekeeper. She was being treated by a doctor the week before she died. May she be at peace in heaven.
Her obituary shows that her funeral was held at Holy Trinity Church in Philadelphia. This church was built in 1789 and was the first German national church in the United States. My grandfather Paul was baptized there, and my great-uncle Joseph attended Holy Trinity’s elementary school. The presence of this church in my family’s history is a sign of my little-known German ancestry.
Obituary is from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Wednesday, March 13, 1907.
